Berg Brilliant Blue Toner     Last week while in the film developing area, I came across a a jug of some blue toner. I thought it looked really interesting so I asked David about it. David said it has been years since anyone has used it, but that I could try it if I wanted to.     I did a little bit of research and found this article ( link ) that gives a good explanation on both how to use it, and how the chemical reaction takes place.     I started off with a throwaway print. I put this in the toner for approximately 5 minutes and watched as it slowly became a deeper blue.      I really liked the results, however, I did learn that the blue toner requires constant agitation otherwise the blue will overflow onto the boarders... I guess maybe this wouldn't matter if the print did not have boarders? But I like my prints with boarders, so I will stick with constant agitation. After a few more tests, I decided that I was happy with 30 secon...

  My first roll of 35mm film...     Canon EOS 30          EF 50mm f/1.8          Ilford HP5 This blog post is slightly overdue (Sorry David), but a couple of weeks ago I was able to develop my first ever roll of 35mm film... or first ever roll of film at that. I would consider myself an "intermediate" photographer in the DSLR world, however, prior to this class I did not know the first thing about analog photography. Already in the little time I've spent shooting 35mm film, I have really gained an appreciation for it and have come to really enjoy it - both shooting the film and the development process. I can already tell that this is something I would like to continue as a hobby beyond this class. Above is a contact print of my first roll of film. I did not go for any sort of theme with this roll as this was really just a test - A test to make sure I did not get ripped off on this camera I bought from Faceb...

    I. Self-Portrait: This exposure took 1.5 minutes in the classroom. I sat on the left stool for the first 45 seconds and then moved over to the right stool for the remaining 45 seconds so that I would register on the photo paper in two different places.  ~Taken with Octagon/Tin camera      II. Where My Eyes Cannot Go / Extreme Depth-of-Field This exposure took 12 seconds and was taken from inside of a bush - Where my eyes cannot go. I think the negative of this image looks better than the positive. ~Taken with Cylinder/Tin camera      III. Duration This exposure is my favourite of all that I took. It took 45 minutes, during which this was an open hallway with people walking through, however, none of them remained in the same spot long enough to register onto the photo paper.
